Tlalamba — The Making Of A Queen

Tlalamba’s story is woven into the very heart of Djuma. Born to the iconic Thandi, she carries a lineage shaped by strength, intuition, and quiet authority. I first met her when she was still a cub — small,
curious, and full of promise. From that moment, I had the rare privilege of watching her grow into the powerful leopardess she is today. I witnessed her becoming.

This artwork captures the moment everything shifted for her. We found Tlalamba during blue hour, perched on a termite mound, surveying the land with a calm, ancient confidence. Thandi had stepped back, and the wild had opened before her. In that stillness, she wasn’t just a young leopardess finding her place — she was stepping into the territory she would one day rule. With Thandi’s passing, that moment now feels like a coronation. The northern sector of Torchwood and Djuma became hers, and with it, the mantle of Queen.

Her journey into motherhood has not been an easy path. The shifting presence of dominant males challenges her ability to raise cubs, yet she persists with the same resilience her mother embodied. With her latest cub Tshipondo nearing independence, she has proven that Thandi’s lessons — patience, adaptability, courage — live on through her. She is not just surviving; she is shaping the next generation.

Today, Tlalamba stands as the Queen of Djuma — a survivor of battles seen and unseen, a protector of her lineage, and a leopardess whose story continues to unfold with every sunrise. Her reign is not
inherited by chance; it is earned through instinct, endurance, and the quiet, powerful grace that defines her bloodline..
